so. here is a sampling of new work available in my etsy shop. i had already begun painting on plywood, but this time around i made good use of a wood burning tool i found recently - leftover from my days as a student at mass art. it was so much fun to "draw" with the wood burner over the painting and add some depth and detail. plus, i love the smell of burning wood! but who doesn't? from top to bottom these paintings are titled: a storm approaching, i've got my big eyes on you, log cabin X, and owls on rocks.

a little experiment to share : a new painting on tea stained canvas. in the process of soaking the canvas in black tea and re-stretching it over it's wood frame, the painting took on a slightly worn, but loved appearance. at least, i think so :). soon to be listed! i just finished this painting on an old canvas of my mother's that i used once as a pallete. i am generally happy with how it turned out, but i also like it because the canvas is old, and it is fun to think of my mother as a young woman purchasing it somewhere in the 50s. i have a few more of her canvases that i have also used as palletes in my studio in vermont. i think i'll keep at least one. we'll see.

meet chuck. my sister's dog chuck was a cherished member of our family for years. those of you who have, or are acquainted with pugs will understand that although they are small, pugs have huge personalities. we've had and have a number of pugs in our family, but chuck and his cousin won ton were extra special to me in that they were among the first subjects i ever painted. i've been taking advantage of this gorgeous sunny day by doing a little re-photographing of some of my prints and got to reminiscing a bit about old chuck. thought i'd share his little round image with you just for fun. have a wonderful weekend!

in honor of euroweek and inspired by scoutiegirl's peek into austria yesterday, i thought i'd share a selection of art from some european artists on etsy who are a source of inspiration for me. i was fortunate to visit spain as a teenager, and as an adult took a road trip through germany, the czech republic, hungary and austria. there are so many places i would love to visit in my lifetime, in addition to returning to some of these wonderful countries. but of the places i mentioned, i have a special place in my heart for prague, where i spent a magical couple of days with my boyfriend (who would later become my husband). in any case, i highly recommend visiting that gorgeous city. but what about you? are there any european cities or countries that hold a special place in your memory or heart?

another beautiful warm day and it is official, i am horribly spoiled by all of the sunshine we have had this week. the little boy and i are off to watch a school nearby get demolished by a team of giant excavators. he is beyond excited about this turn of events. our plan is to hide behind a fence and watch the action through a rip in the fabric they have stretched around the building site. i already feel a little bit like owl.

goodmorning! welcome to owl's farm. and now in other news...one of my favorite etsians, the lovely belinda of gretchenmist, passed on the kreativ blog award to me over the weekend - thank you. :) i don't know a lot about the award other than for me it's just lovely to be chosen by a peer that i admire, and that the award entails listing 7 things about myself and passing the award on to 7 others. so, 7 random facts:

1. my husband and i grew up in the same town and went to the same high school but didn't know each other at all. when i was 31, we met in the elevator of the building we both worked in in boston. 2 years later we eloped.

2. i LOVE movies. i don't like popcorn.

3. i often listen to the soundtrack to "the myth of fingerprints" on rainy, dark days.

4. i can't read in the car or i get motion sickness.

5. i love libraries & lakes.

6. i am the oldest of 4 girls. my husband is the youngest of 4 boys.

7. i won a gift certificate once by singing "winter wonderland" on the radio. admittedly random, but true.

i'm passing this award on to some talented women whose art and blogs inspire me: holly, janet & trisha, liane, laura, brooke, and mollie. is it against the rules to include you, belinda? OK. well i'm going to do it anyway.
